Today's tip...

With Remote Desktop Connection Client 2, you can quickly, simply and securely connect to Windows-based PCs to access Windows-based files, applications, devices, and networks from your Mac.

The Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 client for macOS with its redesigned user experience and new code base has been available in the App Store since last November and the feedback has been incredible, helping us continuously improve the client.

  • Microsoft yesterday released an update for Remote Desktop client preview app for Mac with many new features like Multiple monitor support, Copy and Paste files support and more. Read about it in detail below. Multiple monitor support. The preview app now supports the ability to use multiple monitors in your remote session.
  • Microsoft pulled Remote Desktop Client 2 for Mac out of beta and released the final product, adding a new user interface and several new features.
  • To work around this issue if you have not installed Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, uninstall the version of Remote Desktop Client 6.0 that was released before April 24, 2007, install the version of Remote Desktop Client 6.0 that was released on April 24, 2007, and then install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
  • When working from Windows, I prefer to use RoyalTS instead of the default Microsoft RDP client, because it allows me to save multiple connections, the credentials of the connection, etc; as well has having more than 1 connection open at a time.

As more and more customers have switched to the new client for their daily usage, we are now preparing to retire the older Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0 version from the App Store.

Is there a similar (or any) alternative to the Microsoft RDP client for connecting from OSX to Windows? Aside from VNC, that is; at this point I'm hoping to continue using the RDP protocol.

Yep, you can use TSclientX, an alternative to RDP Client for Mac OS X.

TSclientX is freeware.

I can confirm that Thinomenon's RDC has the advantage to be compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion when CoRD, TSclientX and apparently Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection are not.
