How to Install GNS3 VM on macOS/Mac?

Before you can make a GNS3 VM connection with GNS3 on the macOS Mojave, you need to install the VMware Fusion virtualization program.

We will import the GNS3 VM.ova file using VMware Fusion on macOS Mojave. To install the VMware Fusion virtualization program on the macOS Mojave, click on the image below to see the related article.

After installing VMware Fusion, follow the steps below in order to install GNS3 VM on macOS Mojave.

Step 1

To download the GNS3 VM for Mac, visit the GNS3 website and click Download and then Download VM for GNS3.

Step 2

In the Download GNS3 VM window, click the Download button under VMware Workstation.

Step 3

Wait while the GNS3 VM is downloading.

Step 4

Copy GNS3 VM.ova file to macOS Mojave desktop.

Step 5

Open VMware Fusion 10 Pro and select Import an existing virtual machineand click the Continue button.

Step 6

Click the Choose File button to add the GNS3 VM.ova file.

Step 7

Select the GNS3 VM.ova file and click the Open button.

Step 8

Click the Continue button to start the import process.

Step 9

Leave the GNS3 VM filename as default and click the Save button.

Wait while GNS3 VM is imported on VMware Fusion.

Select a Cisco Routerthat you have previously added to GNS3 and click on the Next button. Specify the Idle-PC value for the Cisco Router and configure its interface.

You can see from the Server section that the Cisco Router that you added has been added to the GNS3 VM.

Run the Cisco Router and check for any problems. You can also learn the Cisco Router’s IOS image version with the show version command.
